Hello
I’m Karly Warner, a Tasmanian Aboriginal woman. I grew up on Yorta Yorta Country in North-East Victoria.
This is my fourth month as the Chief Executive Officer of the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited. I welcome you all to our deadly new website.
I’m the first female lawyer to lead the Aboriginal Legal Service here in NSW and the ACT. Previously I've worked across multiple practice areas in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service, as well as held legal policy roles within the Victorian public service. I come to this position after leading our peak body, NATSILS- National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services.
I'm excited to be here, working hard alongside our highly committed Board of Directors and talented team who are fighting for justice for Aboriginal people and communities. Everyday our staff are on the front line, pushing for fairness and accountability. Making sure our communities understand their rights and obligations and providing high quality, culturally safe legal help to communities across NSW and the ACT.
ALS was founded on the vision of having Aboriginal community activists, lawyers and supporters fighting together for justice for Aboriginal people.
And as a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation we know it’s critical that our voices are heard and respected when it comes to laws and government policies. As CEO, it is my commitment to ensure that we amplify the voices of Aboriginal people in the communities we live and work.
I believe community led movements are critical to realising self-determination, and together with our supporters we can fight for justice for Aboriginal people.
In solidarity,
Karly Warner
Chief Executive Officer
Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited
