The ALS does not support the expansion of show cause offences to other firearms offences and offences concerning criminal associations. Any expansion of show cause offences on the grounds of community safety must clearly evidence a need for this.

In our submission, drawing from our vast experience representing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the State, there is no need for the proposed expansion as existing bail law appropriately addresses community safety for these offence categories. This context compounds our significant concern that an expansion of show cause to these offence categories will result in an increase in the incarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
