Coroner refers Dwayne Johnstone's death to the DPP

MEDIA STATEMENT - 29 October 2020 

Statement from Dwayne’s partner Kirsty Pepper, Dwayne’s father George Johnstone and Dwayne’s stepmother Jenny Johnstone:

We are very pleased with the outcome of the proceedings so far.

We would like to thank Counsel Assisting Dr Peggy Dwyer and the Coroner for their preparation, professionalism and sensitivity.

We also note our thanks to the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) for their representation and support during this time.

There is still a long way to go to obtaining closure for the loss of our partner and son but we are glad that the matter is being taken seriously.

Given the ongoing nature of the matter we are unable to make any further comment at this time.

Whilst we appreciate everyone’s support, it is important to note that any commentary about the matter or negative comments on social media may hurt future legal proceedings, so we ask the public to please be mindful of that.
