ALS ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF NEW CEO
Peak body Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Karly Warner as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Ms Warner is an Aboriginal woman from Tasmania who grew up on Dhudhuroa country. Ms Warner comes to the role after having served as the Executive Officer for the Aboriginal legal services peak body, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services (NATSILS).
Ms Warner is a qualified lawyer and has a background in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services as a lawyer and advocate. She has previously worked as a lawyer at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS), with experience working across criminal, civil and family law. Ms Warner also has held legal policy positions in the Victorian State Government.
Ms Warner was appointed through a recruitment process following the resignation of former CEO Lesley Turner.
ALS Chairperson Brendan Moyle welcomed Ms Warner to the organisation.
“The Board is confident Karly has the calibre and expertise to lead the ALS in setting our strategic agenda for the future and ensuring that services are provided by our mob across NSW and the ACT.”
“We believe Karly’s experience will be a huge plus for the ALS and will complement the passion and commitment of our Board and the entire ALS team to serve the communities that we live and work in.”
Ms Warner said she was excited for the opportunity to lead the ALS and to work closely with its highly committed Board of Directors.
“The ALS is an important community-controlled organisation, delivering essential and culturally safe services for Aboriginal people in NSW and the ACT.”
“We have a talented team at the ALS ready to take the organisation to the next level of service delivery.”
Janelle Clarke, has been acting in the role of CEO and will return to her substantive position of Chief Operating Officer.
“The Board would like to thank Janelle Clarke for the dedication and commitment she has shown whilst acting in the role of CEO. We are grateful for the contribution she has made to the ALS.” Mr Moyle concluded.
Ms Warner’s appointment was effective Tuesday 11 June.
