Aboriginal Legal Service invites community to elect Company Members

MEDIA RELEASE

Monday 22 November 2021

The Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited (ALS) is pleased to confirm a community meeting in Redfern to elect Company Members, after a previous election meeting was postponed due to COVID.

Company Members play an important role in community-controlled governance of the ALS. To be eligible to become a Director on the organisation’s Board, candidates must first be elected by their communities as a Company Member.

The ALS elects Company Members every three years. Up to ten Aboriginal people are elected from each of three regions across NSW and the ACT: Northern, Western, and Central South Eastern. The Northern and Western Region elections took place in June, while the Central South Eastern Region election was postponed due to the COVID-19 Delta outbreak.

The rescheduled election meeting will now take place at Redfern Community Centre on Saturday 11 December. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18+ and living in the Central South Eastern Region are invited to join for a cuppa and light lunch, and to cast their vote.

Voters will be required to show photo ID proving their age and residency and fill in a declaration form. For full details, visit www.alsnswact.org.au/company_elections or call (02) 9213 4100.
