Our policy and law reform work is central to our fight for justice.
It is critical that Aboriginal voices are heard and respected when it comes to laws and government policies that impact upon our communities.
As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation we have a unique capacity to develop culturally safe and localised solutions that have the support of the community. When we drive the change there are better outcomes for families and communities.
It was the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody back in 1991 that recommended:
In providing funding to Aboriginal Legal Services governments should recognise that Aboriginal Legal Services have a wider role to perform than their immediate task of ensuring the ... provision of legal advice
Our policy and law reform work is informed by sector and cultural expertise - 50 years of culturally safe legal service delivery to Aboriginal communities across NSW and the ACT.
This work is crucial to fulfilling our vision of achieving just and equitable treatment for Aboriginal people and communities.
