This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Primary Purpose of the Role
To advocate for and support Aboriginal families involved with the child protection system, aiming to keep families safe and together. This role is part of the new ALS Child and Family Advocacy and Support (ACFAS) program in Dubbo, Moree, and surrounding areas.

About the Role
The Child and Family Advocacy and Support Officer is part of the Care And Protection/Family Law Practice.
The key responsibilities for Child and Family Advocacy and Support Officer are as under but are not limited to:
- Provide families with information about the child protection system
- Support families in focusing on child safety and wellbeing
- Assist families in self-advocacy or represent their views when needed
- Facilitate positive engagement between families and organizations
- Help families access necessary services
- Coordinate and attend support meetings
- Maintain accurate records and data
- Adhere to ALS policies and values
About You
We’re looking for someone who can:
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- has strong connection to the local Indigenous community
- Demonstrate experience in Allied Services or related fields
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Show ability to work in a culturally safe and trauma-informed manner
