ALS now managing body for tenancy advice services in Sydney and Dubbo

ALS is the managing body for the ‘Western Aboriginal Tenancy Advice and Advocacy Service’ in Dubbo and the ‘Greater Sydney Aboriginal Tenancy Service’ in Redfern to provide advice and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander renters.
NSW Fair Trading awarded ALS management of the two operations from January 2017.
Both Tenancy Services are free and focused on assisting Aboriginal renters in private rentals and social housing. Whether it’s an issue with a landlord or a social housing provider, the Tenancy Service has advocates who can speak up and negotiate outcomes on behalf of tenants. They provide information on tenant’s rights and responsibilities, repairs and maintenance, rent arrears, and subsidies available, and can assist if a tenant needs to go to a tribunal. The Tenancy Services also do referrals, financial counselling and appeals, and liaise and provide input into social housing policies.
